Here are the best hook bowling balls for 2021 that have been compiled from all the ball releases this year. I tried to divide these into three categories. Experienced, Intermediate, and Beginner. My goal is to match the best ball capabilities with the skill level that bowlers have reached. But, I must admit it was hard to choose just one category for some of these balls. Some could easily bridge two categories.
I want the beginner to avoid getting a ball suited for an experienced bowler, and end up with a ball that is way too strong for his skill set. And keep the experienced bowler from buying a ball that is disappointing in performance.
I have rated the balls according to the hook they are capable of producing. The way the ball is drilled can affect the performance level, especially in the Asymmetrical balls. This List is Balls that have been released in 2021 only.
My personal #1 overall choice is the Storm Parallex Effect. This is based upon the versatility of this ball. It can be drilled very strong, or tamed down a bit. And it is very controllable and consistent for an Asymmetrical ball. It is not the strongest hooking, but it is very user friendly. I think that is the most important feature in any bowling ball. I am sure that others have their favorite as well.
9 Best Hook Bowling Balls For Experienced Players
These are the top level high tech balls designed for experienced players. They will deliver strong hook in heavy and medium heavy oil conditions.
Global Altered Reality
The Altered Reality comes equipped with the Disturbance asymmetric core. This is the latest addition to the Global Reality Line. The unique shape of the Disturbance core will provide strong midlane and backend reaction.
Wrapped with the S84 Response pearl reactive coverstock and finished at 1500-grit and polished, this ball will provide a slightly sharper motion on the lane than the Reality.
I tried this ball when my local alley had a ball demo. Wow, this is a fun ball! I stood at 25 and went right over the third arrow, and smashed the pins with strike after strike on a medium oil house shot. But, I would need another ball when the lanes transition to dry late in my league night!
If you have a lot of speed in your delivery, you will definitely like this ball!
Step up your game with your own Altered Reality!

Roto Grip RST-X2
Roto Grip RXT 2 is a new release following the popular RTS X-1. The RXT X-2 features the same great asymmetric RST core (Roto Star Tour Core), as the RTS X-1, but the cover is changed.
Here is what Roto Grip has to Say
“Given the continued success of the RST X-1, we knew the next ball in the series using the Roto Star Tour Core was going to need a special coverstock wrapped around it as well. So after countless tests involving multiple players of different styles, we determined that the eTrax pearl material gave us the type of reaction we were looking for, but, we wanted something a little more while still using that same chemistry.”
“So the R&D Team went to work changing the ratios and other variables until we settled in on the NEW eTrax PLUS Pearl Reactive formula that provides a larger footprint throughout the entire lane without reducing the responsiveness to friction down lane. Creating yet another viable pearlized coverstock option for the Roto Grip family of balls.”
