Best Hook Bowling Balls 2024 – Get Yours Now!

My best hook bowling balls list is overdue, so I decided to get another list together. I will again try to separate them into 3 categories: Experienced, Intermediate, and Beginner. Sometimes it is hard to do because they could fit into two categories.

The main goal is to show some of the latest hook balls for bowlers that need a stronger bowling ball. I also want to keep a bowler from buying a ball that is too strong. You can get the pro shop to help you somewhat when that happens by changing the surface of the ball. But, there are times when it just doesn’t help, and a ball that is too strong will stay in the bowling bag or at home because it is just too strong for the conditions you bowl on.

So, if I can give you a heads up on the stronger balls, maybe you can avoid that!

It is still early in the year, and I will post what is available now in several brands and add more to the list later as they are released. For now, these are some of the newest, strongest hook balls that became available for 2024.

    • Hi Ela,

Thank you for your kind words! I wanted to give bowlers some information on each bowling ball before they buy it. I know I have bought some bowling balls that were way to strong for our league conditions, and I could only use them on rare occasions. We just didn’t have enough oil to keep the ball tamed down. I didn’t want to see bowlers making the same mistake.

I am glad you enjoyed my article. And I want to thank you for taking the time to leave a comment! It is greatly appreciated. Please stop back soon.

  2. This is a very helpful and detailed list of hook bowling balls. As a complete novice, I am still learning about dry lanes and heavy oil, so don’t know the difference between them. Which one is easiest for a complete beginner? Would it be a dry lane?

I like the fact that the Hammer Black Pearl urethane ball seems to be suitable for intermediate, as well as beginners bowlers. Would it be better to start with a ball like this, to cater for progression and improvement in the game,  or should I rather choose a real beginner’s ball? Thank you for your advise.

    • HI Line,

Thank you for your kind words! To say which one is the easiest would depend on which ball you were using and how you like to throw the ball. For someone who throws a straight ball, then a plastic ball is fine because you aren’t trying to hook the ball. If someone is learning to hook the ball, then the oil is designed to help you keep your shot in the pocket. And the person who is hooking the ball will definitely get more strikes and likely higher scores.

The same goes for your ball selection. The urethane balls will hook and the plastic balls go straight. Your style determines which one is better for you. If you are interested in throwing more strikes, then you would benefit from learning to hook the ball. If it doesn’t matter, a straight (plastic) ball is just fine.

Thanks for taking the time to leave such a nice comment, Please stop back soon!
